How to Make Sausage Balls Without Bisquick

There is something about homemade sausage balls that lets you know the Holidays are near.

Well, if we are being honest, this recipe is so good I make sausage balls year-round.  Especially during the school year. Sausage balls are my go-to quick breakfast on those lazy mornings.

I mean sausage balls contain, almost all the food groups right?...

Enough about that, here is the recipe.

Sausage Balls with Cream Cheese and without bisquick

Here is what you need:

4 cups flour- King Arthur

2 tablespoons baking powder- Aluminum Free

1 teaspoon salt- Pink Himalayan Salt

2 16 OZ packages of Jimmy Dean Sausage

1 block cream cheese softened - Philadelphia

4 cups Shredded Cheese- I buy the block of cheese and shredded it myself.

Now for the magic!

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Find a cookie sheet/stone and prepare if need be

  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt

  4. Add the sausage to the bowl and begin mixing together

  5. Add your cream cheese to the mix. Cut up the cream cheese into smaller pieces so it can mix well

  6. Add your shredded cheese to the mix

***I think steps 3-5 work best when you use your hands to mix everything together.

  1. Roll mixture into bite-sized balls and lay on a cookie sheet

  2. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown

  3. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge

These sausage balls usually last about one week in my house. Good grief, I have teenagers. What can I say?

However, you could flash-freeze some of the sausage balls before you baked them, and store them in the freezer for last-minute breakfast or party meals.

Or you could go ahead and bake the sausage balls and then freeze them. Whichever ways float your boat.
