
This is the first year in many years that I was excited about the elf on the shelf.
This is how my life goes. It never fails at the beginning of the month. I am excited, ready to go. A few days in, I forget to move the darn things. Which starts the downward spiral. I end up stressing myself out, becoming resentful over an activity that should be fun and joyful.

It began years ago with a mom who was overachieving and clueless about what she was getting into.
Our children were perceptive to the things they wanted to pay attention to. Early on, they recognized that “Santa’s” handwriting matched mom’s all too closely. I tapped into my creative spirit and came up with this wonderful idea.

After initially considering starting a UPS store and experiencing obstacles, we stumbled upon the Postal Annex concept. At first unsure, the idea persisted in their mind until they finally decided to revisit it. Despite a tumultuous year filled with ups and downs, they took the leap and became franchise owners in May of 2023. Reflecting on their journey, they realized the importance of trusting in divine timing and learning to let go of control.

“God let me down today.” Those were the words that flew out of Darcee’s mouth, my seven-year-old daughter, as she stormed away from me and headed towards her room crying.
I just stood there with a shocked look on my face. Then, I turned to my other daughter, Delilah, to verify if I heard her correctly.
I asked Delilah- “Did she just say, God, Let me down today?” At that moment, Delilah and I both started laughing because that was precisely what she said. (We were not laughing at her comment, we were laughing that we both needed verification that we heard her right.)

Teaching your children to be grateful can be challenging. Especially when they are young and want to give the same answer every single day.
