When you realize how easy it is to use the items you already have at home to make food from scratch, it kind of amazes you.
One of the things we stopped buying at the grocery store is ranch dressing.
Making it at home is simple and affordable. Most of the time the spices are already sitting in your pantry waiting to be used.
And the taste? It’s way better than anything you’ll find on the shelf at the store. The bonus is knowing exactly what ingredients are inside that mason jar sitting in your fridge.
This recipe makes a dry ranch mix that you can keep on hand and use whenever you need it. One batch will make many jars of dressing.
Here’s what you’ll need
½ cup dill weed
½ cup parsley
¼ cup onion flakes
¼ cup onion powder
¼ cup garlic powder
2 tablespoons chives
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon pepper
½ cup parsley
¼ cup onion flakes
¼ cup onion powder
¼ cup garlic powder
2 tablespoons chives
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon pepper

In a large mixing bowl, add all of the spices and mix well until everything is combined.
Store your ranch mix in an airtight jar for up to one year. A mason jar works great. Just give it a little shake before using.
To make a batch of ranch dressing
In a mixing bowl combine:
½ cup mayonnaise

½ cup milk
2 tablespoons of your dry ranch mix
½ cup sour cream
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons of your dry ranch mix
Whisk everything together until smooth.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.

Sometimes the easiest changes in the kitchen are the ones that make the biggest difference. Mixing up something simple like this takes just a few minutes, but it saves money, tastes better, and uses ingredients you likely already have at home.
And once you start making a few things from scratch, you realize it really isn’t complicated at all.
