There is a magical place in Dayton, TN, where you can grab some pizza for dinner and pick out your next book.
Imagine this: think back to the good ole days, when you would order a pizza and then head over to the other side of the store to pick out what movies you were going to rent for the weekend.
1st Avenue Pizza has taken this idea to the next level, but with books instead of movies.
When you walk into the pizza place, an arch of leaning books quickly greets you. If that doesn’t capture your attention, move on. This blog post isn’t for you.
Before you decide to take a detour and scour every inch of the place to see what books they have.
Stop yourself and walk to the back where you place your pizza order.
Now that you have placed your lunch or dinner order, let the hunting begin.
We spend most of our time in the children's section. If your kids are like mine, no matter the age, they gravitate towards the children’s section.
I like to think that we spent so much time there, introducing our children to the unique books, or even sharing memories of books they loved when they were younger. But if I am being fair, the tree in the middle of the room, with books all around, probably has something to do with it too.
I am fascinated by how good their memories are. They spot the cover of a book or series they loved years ago and pick it up, and begin reminiscing about the story.
That is where the magic happens. They start talking!

“Remember when…”
“I had this whole series.”
“I read this series every summer.”
Hearing them talk about all the stories they read growing up brings me so much joy. I love that they enjoy reading. But I also love where those books take the conversation.
Wandering throught the books while waiting on your pizza gives everyone something to talk about. Those causal little conversations can follow you right to the dinner table.
If connecting and being present with your family is on your list of things to do. Or in more hip terms, if hanging out with your kids is on your Bingo Card. I highly recommend that you visit this restaurant/store.
What we ordered:
1 pepperoni and mushroom pizza
6 buffalo wings
1 suprmere calzone.
And, yes we brought home plenty of food for lunch the next day.
