Say what….did You know you can make Rice Krispies Treats in the oven?
You sure can, and trust me when I say I think they taste better than on the stovetop. Plus, it is all prepared in one dish and popped into the oven.
Check out the recipe:
You need:
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
(10-ounce) bag of marshmallows
1/4 cup butter cut up into small pieces (this helps the butter melt faster)
1 9x13 casserole dish
Here is how to make them:
Turn your oven on to pre-heat to 325 degrees.
You need to grease your casserole dish. I do not use shortening or sprays. I lathered a good layer of real butter around the bottom and edges of the dish.
Once the dish is buttered, add the butter to the pan and place it in the oven while it preheats. It melts while the oven heats, so there’s one less dish to wash.

Once your butter is melted and the oven is preheated, add your marshmallows to the dish. Toss them directly over the melted butter, making a layer of marshmallows. (I had some leftover Jumbo marshmellows for a bonfire, so I just filled the botton of the casserole dish with them - you can use whatever size marshmellows you want.)

After that, add your Rice Krispies cereal to the mix. No need to mix them in just yet. Let’s have the oven do the heavy lifting for us.

Now place your Rice Krispies in the oven for about 15 to 20 minutes. You know they are ready when the marshmallows are nice and puffy.
Carefully remove the dish from the oven and stir everything together until all of the cereal is coated with the melted marshmallows.
I use a metal serving spoon that I have greased with butter to help keep things from sticking together.
Once everything is mixed well. Press it down and smooth out the top of your Rice Krispies Treats. Don’t press them down too hard; you can end up with hard Rice Krispy Treats instead of soft and airy treats.
It is best to let them cool before cutting into them.
Next time you’re craving Rice Krispies Treats, give the oven method a try and let me know what you think.
Are you Team Oven or Team Stovetop? I’m definitely Team Oven!
