Dunlap’s newest spot is officially opening this weekend, and we got a chance to check it out early.
When you walk in, you’ll sign a quick consent form, then you’re ready to get started. They have five throwing lanes set up, each with four different axes. I liked that you could try them all and figure out which one felt right—it definitely makes a difference.
Before you start, take a minute to read through the safety rules. Nothing complicated, just the basics to keep everyone safe. A couple that stood out:
- No double axe throwing
- Keep the axe inside the red tape on the floor
And then… it’s go time.
I’ll be honest—it took me a minute to warm up. My first throw had me a little concerned (apparently I’ve got more strength than I realized 😅). But once I got the hang of it, I was all in. No bullseye, but I hit the board every time, so I’m counting that as a win.
Our daughter wasn’t quite sure about it at first, which I totally get. But they’ve thought of that too. They have a plastic axe and target setup so kids (or anyone a little unsure) can try it out without the pressure of a real axe. She ended up loving it and stayed entertained way longer than I expected—and now she’s already talking about coming back to try the real thing.

They do have canned drinks available—soda, beer, and spritzers. And for food, they’ve got a really easy setup. You just scan a QR code at one of the barrel tables and order from the brewery next door. They’ll bring it straight to you, so you don’t have to stop playing.
If you’re not super hungry, the pretzel with beer cheese is worth it. Simple and really good.
Overall, it was just a fun night out—something a little different without having to go far. Definitely a spot we’ll come back to, especially when the whole family is in town.
